Digital Transformation in Action: The Queensland College of Art Prints Archive
Russell Craig (QCA) & Therese Nolan-Brown (GU)
Abstract: This project involved the digital translation of the Queensland College of Art’s (QCA) extensive unique archive of prints, drawings, works on paper and artist books, encapsulating over 40 years of print culture at the QCA, including the full suite of QCA print folios produced annually since 1984.
The project utilised the Omeka digital publishing platform and Dublin Core metadata standards to create an open-access digital archive and digital exhibitions for use by students and researchers.
This resource enables visibility and discovery to facilitate scholarship and access for arts communities and the general public. This digital archive was achieved through a collaboration between artist Russell Craig (former head of Printmaking at QCA Griffith University) and Therese Nolan-Brown, Griffith University Library Visual Arts Librarian (2014-2019). The archive was launched on 13 November as part of the Arlis/ANZ Conference program.
About: Russell Craig's work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally and is included in the collections of the Queensland Art Gallery, Darwin Museums and Art Galleries permanent collection, Australian Embassy Art Collection, Vietnam; Central Academy of Fine Arts Art Collection, Beijing; Griffith University Art Collection as well as numerous regional galleries in Queensland.
Russell was a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art (drawing & printmaking) at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University (1978 -2016).
Therese Nolan-Brown was the Visual Arts Librarian at Queensland College of Art Library from 2014 to 2019 and is currently a Researcher Services Librarian at Griffith University Library.
