The Material Artists Book

The Role of the Autographic and Materiality in Prints

Michael Phillips (QCA)

Abstract: How might the micro haptics of the (post-digital) print re-balance and contribute to an answer to what Laura Marks identifies as “a cultural dissatisfaction with the limits of [optical] visuality”- in particular the artist book and its position within contemporary print culture.

About Michael: Michael completed a B.App. Sc. (Built Environment) at Queensland Institute of Technology in 1986. He established a studio in Brisbane Community Arts Centre (now Metro Arts) working on set and print designs for theatre and performance ensembles. Hi art practice is in painting and small sculpture.
