Digital by Design: Transforming Collections, Experiences, and Services at State Library

Margaret Warren (SL)

Abstract: State Library of Queensland has embraced ‘digital’ - building digital collections and enabling access to them for use and re-use, and integrating digital experiences in our events and exhibitions.

The development of a digital strategy in 2017 was not so much about transformation from analogue to digital – a seismic shift. Rather, it was about evolution from a first-generation digital library to a library that is digital by design. Since then the library has worked to realise this evolution: for our intention to think, act and be digital first – and for digital experiences to be intrinsically part of the life of the library and the people who visit, use, collaborate and create with us.

This presentation will examine some of the ways the library has undertaken this work, and how we have addressed both challenges and opportunities.
